About FF
Fiesta Feminista grew out of a desire to reclaim and popularise feminism in Malaysia. It recognises the importance of bringing together women and men who want to share, discuss, learn and strategise on issues of feminism, human rights and democracy.
This will improve understanding and awareness about the role, contributions and relevance of feminism to building a just and democratic Malaysia.
Seeking to draw those from different classes, ages, ethnicities, cultures religions, sexualities, locations, and organisations, Fiesta Feminista aims to be a platform where diversity is recognised and celebrated, even as we discuss and negotiate the similarities and differences between us. It aims to be a space where thinking out loud is respected, where women and men can engage, connect with and inspire each other.
Networking and collective activism is essential in efforts to end inequality. Hence, Fiesta Feminista seeks not only to consolidate existing strengths within the women's and social justice movements, but also to attract new energies and diversity into its fold.
Conceived as a regular activity to take place once every two to three years, Fiesta Feminista kicked off in 2007 with a two-and-a-half day event (15-17 June) that took place in the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.
